Como fazer um shutdown ou um restart via shell (ubuntu) ?

Boas,

...n sei o que se passa às vezes com o meu ubuntu, mas às vezes o meu ubuntu arranca com a barra do top direito com aplicaçoes ao pares e outra em "branco" e uma delas costuma ser o botao de desligar o pc. Já adicionei um botao de desligar na barra central, mas fiquei curioso em saber como poderia fazer eu um shutdown, um restart ou uma hibernaçao apartir da shell?
